Collaborative Learning and Professional Development

 

Come to the beautiful town of Porvoo in Finland to extend your English language skills and discover Digital Learning techniques to enhance your classroom teaching and motivate your students.
Dates: 23rdJuly – 29th July 2017

        

In addition to specialist training, there will be opportunities to enjoy the local Finnish culture and explore the medieval town of Porvoo with its old town, cobbled streets and beautiful red shore houses, which have been a source of inspiration to many artists.

The course will be delivered in English and give extensive opportunities for individual or small group teaching in English language with experienced trainers. Included, will be transferrable techniques for teaching English to students. This programme will run concurrently with a Digital Learning Course Delegates and will be invited to complete a survey prior to the course in order to meet expectations.

Whatever your level of expertise, the Digital Learning Course is designed for everyone wanting to update their skills and explore new ways to use skills to enhance teaching and learning.
The course will look at tools for communication and collaboration and digital competence.
The trainers are all experienced International Practitioners who feel passionately about equipping the next generation with a global outlook. Some of the practical aspects of this course will include the development of the International Dimension in your school and how it can transform the learning of your students through the School Improvement Plan. All delegates will be invited to write an individual development plan for sustainable good practice, to be implemented in their school on their return.

A brief outline of the course is as follows:

Day One: ‘Digital Literacy as a Core Skill’
Theoretical Understanding of Digital Literacy and its core elements with practical applications. Identifying opportunities to develop digital literacy further in your school with key learning principles.
A Networking Dinner in Porvoo

Day Two: ’Teaching English as an Additional Language’
Investigating technology to support student learning with practical activities to improve English language confidence. This element of the course will be ongoing throughout and can be adapted to meet individual requirements.
Evening Tour of Porvoo to include the church and the town museum. Delegates will be asked to make their own arrangements for dinner.

Day Three: ‘Using Mobile Technology to Enhance Learning’
Sharing experiences under the guidance of experienced trainers. This will also include applications to enhance the international dimension in the curriculum.
Shopping and pre-dinner drinks in Porvoo.

Day Four: ‘Creating, Presenting and Sustainable development’
Creating a set task and presenting ideas to the group. Writing a development Plan for implementation in the new school year.
Farewell dinner.

Day Five: “Plenary’
An informal day of discussion and completion of development plans. Opportunities for meeting delegate individual training needs.

Delegates will be expected to find their own hotel accommodation but support and guidance will be available with all aspects of travel to and from Finland. We offer you a thoroughly enjoyable, memorable experience in Porvoo with new and exciting ideas to take back to your school.
